I am going to say something so controversial yet true.
The shooter was just a normal person who had access to military grade hardware when he shouldn’t have.
Up until this shooter began killing people, he had no criminal record, typical problems with school and relationships. The actions the shooter took surprised most everyone that knew him. He was angry.
How often have we heard these things before?
After each of these mass shootings the same tropes are thrown out that the person was abnormal in some way, suffering mental illness, a loner, a social outcast, a reject or some other nonsense. All that does is moves us collectively away from dealing with the central problem of gun accessibility.
The reason the US keeps having mass shooting after mass shooting is first and foremost that we have a gun problem.
I love guns. So do most of my family who all keep them safe and secure, not posing with them on Christmas cards like we are some religious jihadists. It is time to ban auto and semi-automatic weapon sales, slap incredibly high taxes on bullets, raise the age to 21, and require licenses with proof of use/need for newer purchases.
Regulations are much stricter here in Canada, and it works - we have considerably less gun violence here than in the U.S.
I have American relatives who all own guns, some also have permits to carry handguns, and these people have small children in the house. How many children are killed or injured by guns each year in the US as compared to Canada?

I could turn off notifications, but their obsession with me is somewhat amusing and I would miss the laugh.
Plus their comments show their true colours- so not only do they enjoy harassing women, they also are against gun regulations. I guess they really are MAGA.
Ask Roger Stone and his buddy Frank Parlato why they are so interested in Canadian politics. Roger's activities--- meddling in Canadian politics and snuggling up to Ezra Levant--- are much more important than my comments.

I actually strongly agree this is a supply-related problem rather than a demand-related problem.
There are more guns than people in this country. So if you aren't talking about large scale removal (in one form or another) & destruction by the state then whatever gun control measure we are talking about will make a marginal difference, at best.
But, like, how in the world do we do that? I tend to believe the people that say they will shoot at anyone that comes to take their guns. And there's a lot of em and they have a lot of guns.
Start with buy backs, and removing the rapid capacity military grade guns from stores. Most of the mass shooters have tended to be young so this would limit future school shootings to less mass casualty weaponry. That is where one starts.
The quickest way to shunt mass shootings is to price the ammo out of reach to most teens and young adults.
