This from Jack Smith’s Saturday filing regarding Trump for a January 9th hearing on whether Trump can do whatever he wants, is quite something.
Let’s go over the scope of what Jack Smith is saying.
Trump has repeatedly directed lucrative Government contracts to his own and his friends businesses. My interests covered in my book were in how he illegally transferred nuclear technology to the Saudis benefiting Tom Barrack, Kushner and others bypassing Congress to secret away those. The Saudis, specifically MbS, hacked a WaPo journalist to pieces and still got a nuclear program far more advanced than what Iran has. The whole affair which also involved secretly giving the Saudis a US-based missile plant with schematics, is still the most dangerous thing Trump did while controlling the executive branch.
While Trump’s illegal business dealings are technically outside of the Special Counsel’s purvey, it is clear that all the reporting on various contracts has or is being investigated. There is no evidence of bribery in regards to these contracts given. There was plenty of evidence detailed in government documents that these men conspired to circumvent US laws to get Trump’s pre-arranged prior to US-election deal done, violating the Logan Act along with other chargeable felonies.
Jack Smith states that specifically for a reason.
The other items on the list parallel known activities of Trump that each require full investigation over.
Trump directed his AG to go after his political opponents weaponizing the DOJ to the point I would not be surprised to see Bill Barr indicted over his intentional mishandling of the Mueller Investigation lying about the conclusions of the report before the report was even made available. Trump also pressured his FBI director James Comey to let felon Mike Flynn go, despite his lying about being a foreign agent to multiple adversarial countries.
The National Guard issue reminds me of January 6th, where Trump’s efforts prevented the Guard from stopping Trump’s cult insurrectionists from nearly ending US democracy.
Trump may have other indictments issued at some point, all justifiable, it seems.
