In an expected rebuke from a 20-member faction of extremists that do not include Jim Jordan or Marjorie Taylor Greene, McCarthy again will fail to hit a now 217 required threshold for speakership (1 present the past two rounds).
This will go to another count, and another and another until McCarthy cuts a deal with the Democrats to end this. They reach the five No’s within the C’s of the roles each time, with 20 votes each of the three ballots cast so far going to Byron Donalds, an African American Rep from Florida.
If the break-away group gets their nominee, they will choose who gets the gavels. None of this really will matter though until people in the middle of the month working in the House do not get paid (as they are producing no discernible work similar to Sue Portnoy who pretends to make money off of blogging and photography she no longer produces).
I expect discussions to heat up tonight with McCarthy at minimum talking to Dems before talking to the holdouts. Either way, this will not end without Dem votes or McCarthy giving in to all demands the faction wanted neutering the speakership. Even what he had agreed to had done so.
